some updates for tonight. i made up some bracing for the rear of the frame and then fit the Monogram F350's 460 and transmission. i moved it back quite a bit as it seemed to sit pretty far forward. now it sits nicely in relation to the cab and behind the radiator. Dave

the axles came with the kit and i believe are 5-ton Rockwells? here's a small update on the hood. i needed to close the hole for the supercharger since i won't be using the kit supplied engine. looked around for some scoops and wasn't really finding anything. then i found a Thunderbolt hood in the parts box and decided it would be a good donor. i shortened it up and got it glued to the hood. now it needs some filler to finish it off and i hate messing with filler and putty! i think too the best way to make the front end is as a one piece lift off and not a tilt. if it tilts there is clearance issues with the winch and i'm thinking too of using the much nicer grille piece from the Monogram F350 kit. Dave, there are a few of us watching and salivating and will be saying "awesome" and "cool" a little more toward the completion. Turning out great! John

i got some work done this evening on the front bumper and winch and a little more on the engine. i used the winch from one of my Monogram CJ-7 kits. i think it may be a bit small for a truck this heavy but for the most part it's pretty well hidden behind the bumper. i was suprised at how well i was able to cut the bumper and not damage the chrome, in the end i may strip it off too. the engine got a resin Dominator carburetor and a small spacer underneath it. i used the fuel injection top piece on a build a long time ago so i didn't have it for this build. i had thought too that i was going to be able to use the kit supplied headers but they don't fit. i'll make some from solder later in a similar style. Looking good! I really like how you hid the winch behind the bumper, gives it a nice clean look. Gary

more small updates and this could be it for a little while so i can get back to the Luv project. i got the front clip pinned o the back edge and i sits down on the pins for the hinges on the front, it lifts off pretty nicely. i took the Monogram F350 grille and cut the center section out and thinned it to fit. the headlights and sidemarkers arent going to work though and the AMT pieces really suck as they are piece and chrome plated. i needed some headlights and went digging, came up with some from a '57 Corvette. nowit's got a bit of an identity crisis i believe! the front looks very Chevy to me now, maybe even early Dodge? i took some pieces from a Nascar kit and made them into sidebraces for the bed. they kind of remind me a bit of the pieces you could get in the 80's for Toyota's to make them "Prerunner" style. Dave, maybe you could strip & paint the AMT headlight assemblies body color, or scratchbuild some new ones from clear styrene or a CD jewel or similar?

Dave, I have been following this build, I love it! Thanks for all of the detail pictures. The grille looks good thinned-out, and the bed braces look great. Have you considered a color scheme yet?
