Hey gang.. as I said in my introductory post "Hello from Colorado" here is the 56 Ford Pickup I am talking about... I built this truck back in the early 90's, and for a long time, it was my favorite and best build. But after serving in the Air Force for a little over a decade, and moving to multiple countries all over the world, unfortunately time took its toll and beat it up pretty bad. My cousin and I were looking at it the other day, and we got talking about a classic rock crawler/mud racer look... so I began with stripping the paint off the body.. still stripping other parts, and gotta do the chassis, but its cleaning up rather well. I found a set of monster tires with the right size wheels from one of my kids old toys, but I may end up ordering some SoReal's.. gotta get down to my LHS and get some styrene to start making some new leaf springs and shocks, and I'm looking into maybe getting a blown Ross Gibson engine to stuff in! Here are some pics before I stripped it all down... some might remember the kit, its the Custom '56 Ford Pickup from Revell. Thanks for looking, and I'll post more as the it progresses... git-r-dun!

The rear fenders on this kit have always been a bit oversized... perfect to clear some mud slinger tires! This should be interesting.

Here is a quick mock up.. no where near how its actually gonna sit, but these are the wheels and tires I found.. came off the trailer of a John Deere tractor & trailer toy.. rims were initially yellow.. not bad now! I got a long way to go, so these may not end up actually going on the truck. I still gotta figure out a front axle and differential... oh, and I found an oooooold mustang kit that I f'ed up the paint job on, stripped it down, and am going to try my hand at weathering.. if it goes good, I'll weather the truck a bit too, but the mustang is my first attempt.. we'll see!

Looks like the body cleaned up really well and off to a good start. I'll be eagerly watching this one.

okay, almost done stripping off all the components for the rebuild.. in the mean time I've been playing around with the '67 Mustang, and tried my hand at weathering today.. it was my first attempt, and I started small, just the hood at the moment. I kinda like it, but tell me, does it look realistic enough? If this goes good I may end up weathering the '56... Cheers! I got a little to deep on the underside of the bonnet and cut down to the white plastic, but I can touch those spots up later.

The springs look great did you use the How to make spring tread to make them ? If you change the tires on this I would keep the rims as I think they suite this style of pick up down to a tee. Your doing a top build so far and reminds me a bit of the F1 4X4 conversion build article that was in Scale Auto years ago

yeah Kynan, I used the How-To when I made my springs.. I didn't do step by step, just used the general thread... messed up a bit, but that just teachs me for next time. I'm prepping the chassis now to take the shackles and leafs.. keep a look out for updates!

I think you're on the right track with your weathering. The cool thing about weathering is there's really no way to screw it up!

okay, quick update, had to make a run to the city today to get different styrene that I needed.. about done with the shackles on the rear and got the rear suspension mounts ready to go. Also didn't like the rear frame supports.. kinda wimpy, so I hacked them off and "X"'ed it! I'll post some pics when I get the rear leafs completely attached!
Cheers!
