Does anyone know what the correct automatic transmission is for an 81/82 GMC 3/4 ton pickup?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm more of a "Jeep guy," so someone else might have a better source, but according to the Chuck's Chevy Truck Page: www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/73-87specs.html the TH350 was used in 1/2 tons and small-block equipped 3/4 tons from '73-'81. The TH400 was also used in K20 and K30 models from '77-'87. Finally, the 4-speed TH700R4 was used in k10 & K20 models from '82-'87. So a 1981 3/4 ton could have either a TH350 or a TH400 depending on engine choice. And 1982 3/4 tons could have either a TH400 or TH700R4. My guess is that the higher GVW trucks got the TH400. I assume GMC trucks would be similar. Hopefully, the GM guys will chime in with more definitive info

I'm not certain, but I think trucks with 305s and 350s came with a TH350, and 400s and 454s had the TH400

Kifaru, thanks for the link and info. It is extremely helpful ( and interesting, too).
Drew you are right, small blocks had the TH350 and big blocks got the TH400s.
As I was looking around the site I found out that all 1/2 and 3/4 tons used 10 bolt front axles after 1981!
Thanks again, Chris
