Hey gang.. Found this Jeep at Walmart and had to pick it up. I've seen quite a few other folks have done it as well, and have done fantastic jobs.. I've always wanted to do a Jeep, just never had the chance to pick up a kit, and this time I just couldn't pass on it. Obviously it woulda been cooler with an engine, but that's not a huge deal breaker.
Its been a bit of a slow go for me, as I was building a train table with a mountain & tunnel for my boys when they come up this summer.
Mostly been working on the chassis and axles.. did some weathering, mostly just cuz I've always wanted to, and what better kit to try it on than a mountain used, 4x4'ed Jeep!
Here are the chassis and the rear axle weathered, before the flat clear and black wash
After I dry painted on the rust I tried to very gently mist on some flat clear to hold the rust in place. This was my very first attempt at any kind of weathering, and unfortunately the clear covered a lot of the rust I applied. In addition, the black wash I applied to make it appear road driven kinda turned some components blue. Can't quite figure out if it was something I did wrong, if the black wash is old and no good, or if this is a natural occurrence that happens over silver paint.
Any way, here is the chassis put together, cleared, and black washed.
I've got most of the other components painted at least, except the body. Still doing some fine detail work, although its still slow going as I finish the train table, and I have to get my son on Saturday for the summer.. so with dirt bike riding, 4x4ing in my 1:1, camping, fishing, and anything else we can think of to have fun doing, the Jeep will come along as slowly as needed
Happy Memorial Day folks!
