Since my IH C-series has hit a wall, I need another 4x4 project! I've long wanted to do a model of the Jeep pickup from the first two Tremors movies, so I figured now might be the time, as I'd just gotten a (mostly) complete reissue of the Revell J-10 kit. Here's my starting point, and what I've managed so far... The Townside bed had to go, as did that nasty slatted rear window! I carefully trimmed out the slats, cut off the bed, and walled off the back of the cab with some .020 styrene. Then I realized "Hey, the movie truck has a small back window!" More .020 styrene was used to close off the rear window opening, and the smaller window was marked out. I set up the chassis on wheels and tires from an AMT Daisy Duke CJ-5. I started making up the Thriftside bed, with sides from an AMT Orange Blossom, and scratchbuilt tailgate, front wall, and floor. I made up some fenders using some MORE .020 styrene.... or was it .030? And a few more progress shots... You might have noticed the Weiand valve covers... hey, a guy can take a little creative licence, can't he? Besides, you never actually see the engine in the movies...

Hey Chuck, great work on those fenders. Cool project. You had me scratching my head with Earl Bassett in the title, I totally forgot about that truck in the movie, yet alone remember the guy's name. Will be watching.

Thanks guys! Now, I'm just torn on whether or not I want to buy the RMR grille (I don't see it listed separately- would I have to buy the complete Wagoneer kit?) or make my own. The RMR piece doesn't really look right, but then again, neither does the Revell J-10 kit, to be totally fair! I know I'll have to do something about the front bumper, too- the one on the real truck is a bit more 'sculpted' than the later, '80-'81 Revell part.

I think RMR's resin "rhino" grille is available separately Chuck, but I'm sure you can scratch a better one yourself (along with the correct front bumper), then you can hand them off to a caster so we can all build early J-trucks ;D If not, I'll get to it one day in the not so near future

Hey Jeff would that grille work for the kaiser im building? Willie I'm no Kaiser expert Willie (although I'd love to have a 1:1 M715/725 someday) but I think the military versions all had the large external grille guard, either leaving out the small center civilian "rhino" or maybe having a mesh in the center, hard to tell from all of the "net" pics which ones remain as "factory built" original. If you don't duplicate yours with the large, full grille guard, you'll want to use the "rhino" just for looks sake I'd say. www.vintagemilitarytrucks.com/M715.htmLots-O-pics here

The thing that's stopping me (well, BESIDES being a lazy clod) is that , yeah, I probably could make a pretty convincing Rhino grille, but then the rest of the kit would look bad by comparison. THe RMR grille isn't perfect- it's about equal to the rest of the Revell kit, proportions-wise. Still might roll my own just for S&G, though!

Bed is 82mm long, and the front bulkhead and tailgate are 50 mm wide.
