The reason I'm "spankin' new" is that I've never built an off-road model per se. I built my first model when I was 5 years old--Aurora's King Kong. From then until I was about in 7th grade, that's about all I built, monster models, but I built quite a few dinosaurs too. The closest I came to a car model was a couple of those "Weird-oh" models from Hawk. Then a buddy of mine (his name was actually Buddy) introduced me to military models. I built mostly armor, so I guess MBs, Kubelwagens, and Shermans are technically "off-road" models but those aren't what this forum is about (though a Kubelwagen Baja racer is an interesting idea). I got heavily into it, and I even joined IPMS for a while. Then I got old enough for 1:1 cars...and girls. I put the modeling hobby aside for awhile. Then about 15 years ago I came full circle and started building monsters and dinosaurs again for a short time. The reason I wound up here is that I got into 1:1 Jeeps, getting my first Jeep in 1981. It was a lifted '69 Wagoneer in seafoam green with the Buick 350. My friends nicknamed it "The War Pig." That's the War Pig attached. My 1:1 Jeep projects are on hold because I don't currently have the time or the dough for them. So my '79 J10 and '82 Scrambler are dormant for the time being. But I still have the itch to build Jeeps (and Scouts, Broncos, Landcruisers, and Land Rovers). From what I've seen so far, all of the members here are crazy-good modelers, and I look forward to learning a ton from you all! Attachments:

WELCOME!!!
Great to see another 1:1 Jeep owner here! Are you a member at either IFSJA.org or CJ-8.com???
I'm kinda in the same situation as you, not enough time or $$$ to work on the J20, so we gotta build in scale to scratch our itch! ;D

Thanks for the welcome, you guys! I was kind of joking about the Kubelwagen desert racer, then wtsf150 pointed out that someone already built one. That's awesome! I think Hasegawa used to make a 1/24th scale Kuby. If I could find one, I might just hit you up to pick your brain, kolbenschmidt! And to jeffs396, I am indeed on ifsja.org and cj-8.com as well as cfsja.org (Colorado Full-Size Jeep Association). I don't visit them much because it bums me out to not be able to do much on my own rigs, but there are some extremely knowledgeable and creative folks on these forums. Finally, I will post pics of the military models if I can find any. Unfortunately, I haven't built any military models since probably the 10th grade, which for me was, gosh, more than 35 years ago Needless to say, most of those models suffered serious "shelf wear" during that time and succumbed to the parts box long ago. I plan on building something soon, definitely something simple just to get my feet wet. For a little while there, I was more of a collector than a modeler, and I have some old, unbuilt 4x4 kits in storage, so I need to dig through those to see what I have. This should be fun!
