That's a really good question, bigchevy. I am also wondering about how to scratch build a frame. The model I have selected for my first build doesn't really have a frame in the kit. So I'm considering building my own. I just don't want to get bogged down in too much detail as I want to just get at least one build under my belt soon. Still, I have a hard time building a kit straight out of the box. I have to mess with it. Why is that?

I prefer Evergreen #257 rectangular tube, .125" X .250" for scratching frames, and also stretching/repairing existing frames.
But Larry (Big Ed) is the master frame scratcher here ;D

Holy Cow Ben...yes I did forget. I apologize. And Jeff, thank you again for this and many other compliments. There are several guys here worthy of comps when it comes to scratchbuildin'. It's somethin' I love to do. Just wish I could pick up the tempo a bit. Ben, I use #257 also, just like Jeff. And again, I am sorry for forgetting. Age will do that, ya know . But you'll always find an answer here Ben. P.S. I am exactly like you guys...can't leave anything alone.

Hey Ben. Here's the stock I try to keep on hand. It might seem like a lot, but it's all worth havin' around. I just have Evergreen's stock #s:
114 124 125 126 127
210 thru 214 219 or 220 (they're so close) 221 thru 226
252 253 257 258 267 268
And if there's any other "must-haves" that anyone else keeps on hand, please let us know. Hope this helps.
P.S. I heard Plastruc has six-sided rod (I've yet to buy some) that you can slice up to make your own nuts & possibly bolt heads with a little modification.
You can order direct from Evergreen-1-877-3769099 or 1-425-402-4918. I never did, so I don't know what their prices are like.
