here are a few pics of a project that i started a long time ago and really hasn't progressed at all. mostly it's pretty much due to my lack of knowledge on the subject ;D the kit comes with a nice suspension lift, but it's not enough for realistic clearance of the kit supplied tires. i kind of like the trimmed back sheetmetal look so i just modified the kit that way instead of increasing the amount of lift. the other thing that threw me off a bit was the two piece driveshaft that sort of just hangs there? I know nothing about these either, other than my boss tells me hardly anyone lifts a Yota w/ IFS in the front.

Yea, I remember the craze in the late 80s of the lifted "TOYS" Everyone wanted the 86s because of the solid front axle. You could get a little lift from the torque bars screwed in all the way. But it took a body lift for the rest. I always thought that, that never looked as good as how the 86 Toy lifted looked. I had an 84 Nissan that I got lifted a bit, but not like my buddy's 86 Toy. Man I had wished I got the Toyota over my Nissan. But I did like my Nissan a bit better for other reasons. Hey, nice model, Dave. That is going to look good. I just finally got one of these kits. I want to build it, but not sure how I do. One thing that I will use is this resin dash to make it American. (DOH!! Was that NOT P.C.?) I think this is the correct dash. Am I right? Matt

Matt, that dash is from the 4-runner kit and a little different than the Hilux and double cab kits. it may fit too with some slight modification? it looks like for the most part the tab at the bottom is where they vary from each other.
my wife is the one that's into trucks. she has had two Toyota's that were lifted and a Jeep Wrangler. she had an early Toyota, maybe a '79? it was a solid axle in the front, the truck after that one had IFS.

forgot to mention, there could be an interest in that dash if you were to consider it for your line-up of parts. Aoshima did release the kits with "U.S. market dashboards" but there are a whole lot of them out there that do not have them. i bought all my kits before Aoshima offered them that way and have just RHD dashboards.

Oh Darn! I was hoping that it would work with my Hilux kit. I do not want to build it RHD. I really do not want to make & sell these dashes from my web site because they were resin pieces from Satco, and I just do not knock off other resin casters. But I do have a mold. So if anyone wants any. I will do a back door thing with forum members. heck I got this because It was sent to me from a guy that is a member of this board years ago. I made the mold as a favor to him because he needed a few copies so we did some trading for it. I was going to cut up the mold, but I am glad I kept it when I finally got the Hilux kit. But heck I got it. Matt

i'll compare dashes tomorrow and see if they will swap back and forth. i think the only problem could be that tab at the bottom, but that could be cut off maybe. we'll see what i come up with and i'll let you know!
a long time ago i had a resin LHD dash that came with a kit from Satco and it was so rough it looked like a dog chewed it! that Toyota one looks pretty nice.

Matt, here are the three different dashboards from Aoshima's Toyota kits the tan colored dash with the automatic pedals is from the Hilux Surf Rider kit, or the lifted 4-Runner. the grey dash with the 5-speed pedals is from the 1992 model Hilux Double cab "Lift-Up" it and the grey with the automatic pedals is from the 80? Hilux High Rider kit i'm building. Dave

Interesting. I think the kit I have is the same one you are building. I am going to see if this LHD dash will work . I am sure it will. They all look close enough for models. I still would rather build my Toy with LHD. Thanks for the comparison. Matt

i'd prefer to have the LHD dashboards too, but this is what i've got. it's interesting to look at all the differences between them, there are several and they are subtle.
if you ever do decide to offer that dash, let me know.

I am not going to sell them on my web site. But if you want any. Just e-mail me. I will make some, no problem at all. Matt

thank you Matt! i'll be emailing you soon about some other things too. while building the Luv and painting it's chassis i decided to paint this one too. i got the driveshaft thing figured out and there is nothing wrong with the kit supplied pieces, it was all me. the shocks got primed in Tamiya white primer then sealed with Testors clear lacquer. i painted the boots flat red and then added some decal bin Rancho decals.
