is there a source of common off road "gear" like hi-lift jacks and similar items? i know the guy BigJeepz? had some stuff for awhile but has stopped, is there anyone else?
i'm curious too how to make some things like tow straps, winches and other common items you would find in or on alot of these trucks. is there a source of things like hooks and clevises? chain is pretty easy to find

Dave, most these parts are either found in old kits or hand made, no one place So, like the tire database page, I have started a parts page with stuff other people have found, some from old kits, others from resin casters. www.magazinepublisher.com/models/accessories.htmlHigh-lift jacks are not to hard to make. Pretty much just an "I" beam with holes drilled into it and a few scraps of styrene at the bottom and side. I have been meaning to do a how-to for a while now... I really should make time.

thanks for the link John! good to know where to get that stuff and have it listed in the way it is.
i have a Revell of Germany Uni-Mog firetruck that has alot of accessories that may work too. i'll pull that kit and look and see what it has, could be some more additions to the list.

Dave, our Jake (bigjeepzz) is on hiatus from model building/casting right now, hopefully he'll join us again with his great accessories. Since our off-road niche is so narrowly focused, we need to dig deep in finding/making the things we need to build realistic rigs. We have a great caster on board in Alan (masresin) who is willing to reproduce items we need. I propose that we each pick an accessory or two & create or perfect a master that Alan can add to his ever-growing catalog. That way we get what we need & everyone wins! This could be our first community build here...what does everyone think???

I think it's an outstanding idea. I'd love for someone to cast the 2 1/2 ton Rockwells I scratched. I got other little things that would certainly help builders. We'll see.....

What about some off-road KC Lights? Been trying to find some for awhile now.(or at least something that I can use to build some) Wicked, I saw a guy making the round off road lights using the back of medicine sheets... you know the sheets where you push the pill through the back. Previcid comes to mind. You cut the foil front to get the pill out then trim it down until it looks the "bump" at the rear of the light. Then you either cover the front with styrene/decal or find a headlight lens from your parts box. Hope that makes sense, it is still early and I have not yet had coffee. John

the other source of lights that i have been looking at is '32 Ford headlights from Revell's kit's or pretty much anything else similar. the Revell '32 kit's include two sets of headlights in each, one large and one small. build the kit and you've got one set left over depending on which you decided to use. build several of the kits and you've got a good pile of them left! leave the housings chrome or paint them face down with some semi-gloss black for black housings. you should be able to touch up the front edge you missed with a brush to make all black housings.
the lights i used on my Rav4 build are from Aoshima's crew cab Toyota kit and it comes with 6 of them. they are nice in that they include covers and lenses. there are also IPF decals for 4 of the covers.
Slixx decals has a sheet of drag sponsor decals that has a bunch of KC light decals on it. not sure why they are on a drag sheet but they are on there. it's kind of interesting to see people using them on drag cars as sponsor contingencies?
Italeri makes a truck accessories set too that is meant for big rigs and such but it too includes alot of stuf that can be used on off road trucks. there are some tools, lights, boxes and different things in that set.

I think a sheet of decals would be pretty good too...Detroit Locker, Warn, PowerTank, etc.
