I was just cruisin the web and checkin out stuff and went to the drm boards (including the yahoo deal)after being around since 03 there were still only like 400 something members and hardly anyone had made it into the hundreds of posts. that got me to thinking about how much of a niche market are off road vehicles ?is it because there isnt interest or because pickens are so slim ?and is the slim pickens due to no interest or .....? it seems everyone has at least one off road project they have planned but would they build more if there were more subject matter? to be honest I always wanted a batmobile kit now i have 2 and not nearly the interest.maybe the answer is parts to make vehicles off road worthy. I dont know but I would like more stuff that I didn't have to scratchbuild .of course in all fairness my models are not known for being finished. what are your thoughts is there more interest than we know or not as much as we would like.

Randy, I think you've got it just about right!
The combination of no new 4x4/truck/SUV kits, along with limited aftermarket support, leaves us as a small (but dedicated) group...
We can be the pioneers though when offroad builds catch on with the masses! ;D

I also think that parts have to be plastic. not because the resin guys do a bad job but rather people don't hear about them until it is too late or because it is sometimes a perceived hassle to order parts and get them in a timely manner.to wit erveryone that had an interest went out and got the so real tires and the satco tires but I have only one set of resin tires.Your thoughts.......

It seems like a chicken or the egg scenario. Could be a lack of interest because there aren't any good kits, or there aren't any good kits because there is a lack of interest. I feel like it's the latter. If the model companies felt like there was a large enough demand for new truck kits to make a profit, they'd probably invest in new tooling. I think they feel like they just won't sell enough. All we can do is email them, and let them know what kind of kits we like. If they see enough interest, they may be persuaded. Until then, we'll have to settle for diecast, resin, or buying several plastic kits to get enough axles!

There must not be enough interest in pickups, 4X4 or SUV's for the kit makers to produce them anymore. Sure, they will throw us a bone every now and then with a reissue that we already have in the stash. But, we haven't seen a newly tooled kit since '99 and neither of those were 4X4s. The '90s were pretty good as far as new pickup kits, but few of them were 4X4s even then. I think the only one was the Lindberg F150. I believe the kit companies really missed the boat by not producing any heavy duty truck models when the real trucks were so popular.
I've heard that Aoshima is supposedly coming out with a couple of new pickup kits. Don't know if they will be 4X4 or not. When they do, I'm definitely going to buy some of them unless they are just total poo. But everything I've seen so far from Aoshima is nice. I just don't care for the lack of an engine in some of them.

If you look back, there have been quite a few good old 4x4 kits. Most have not be re-popped in many years. There must be a reason for that. Unfortunately.

As being out there I know that there is a movement to get people to move towards technology. That being said RC is exploding. I remember 15-20 years ago RC's were like this. Everyone was getting into them. Then they slacked off. Well now they are exploding again. In the small town I live near there used to be 8-10 hobby shops. My uncle had one too. Then Walmart came in and all counts aside there are only 2 hobby shops that only do RC's now. Oh there are plenty of hidden plastic modelers out there. Maybe they need that right push I just found and old picture of my friends brothers truck and thought about making it
