I really would like to get your input on this. I want to know if this would be something worth my time and money. I have been trying to figure out a way to come to into production of a 1/25th scale early Bronco. There are a few ways to do this. One being in getting ahold of one of those old "Gay Toy Company's" little plastic Bronco. It is very close to 1/25th. I think that it can be very reworked to make a nice resin body with. As for the interior and chassis. Well, that is another story. Not sure where to go with that. But to start off with a body. I am willing to put the money into getting one of these toys. Do not know how long it will take me to get one, but I know that I will....someday. Somehow. I see them pop up from time to time on E-bay. I know that this is a very wanted subject in the hobby. Do you think that I should go forward with this? Is it worth my time? thanks Matt

It is ABSOLUTELY worth it Matt! BUT, It's gotta be accurate. I think the problem with the other two "companies" that repopped the Gay Toys Bronco was that it was a direct copy without fixing the inaccuracies. I don't know if I'd start with that toy, this might be a better choice, or maybe in combination with: cgi.ebay.com/1966-FORD-F-100-TRUCK-BANK-WIX-FILTERS-RARE-MIB-HTF_W0QQitemZ230437008024QQcategoryZ766QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DMRU-220%252BUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26pmod%3D200479027926%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8090057330808640502The slab-sided sheetmetal on these pickups was very similar to the same era Broncos... This is on my to-do list, but no time soon. I hope you do it, then I don't have to! An example is with my Scrambler...I worked directly with 1:1 owners for pics, measurements, and general advice to get the thing as accurate as I could. I went as far as measuring 1:1s (when I could find them close to home). This means alot to the enthusiasts that own these vehicles. RMR makes a "70s" Scrambler as he calls it (they didn't come out until 1981 LOL) that I saw in person at Toledo last year. I had it in hand & looked it over, talked to Ron about it, and asked how long it had been on the market & how many he had sold...he said about a year & that he had sold 8 or so! Nothing against Ron as he seems like a good guy, but little effort went into his CJ-8, and I think the sales numbers reflect that. The only one I've ever seen built was his display at the show Here's some links Mike (trailbound) posted in my "builders burnout" thread awhile back: And here's a 1:1 early Bronco site that if you're serious about doing this, I'd join & get input from the owners of these neat rigs. classicbroncos.com/forums/index.php

It has been a while since I posted (I have been quietly surfing though)...this is a must in our hobby. But like Jeff said, it needs to be done right or not done at all. I have seen some of the popular 4x4s like the Scrambler and Wagoneer be done in resin by other companies. The idea was great, but then when you see them in person they are a huge turn off (not worth the money nor the build time). I would suggest doing the Bronco much like Jeff is doing the CJ8. Consider full top, half cab, removable top, maybe even the half doors.

Thanks allot for your input guys. This was very helpful. I think at this time I am not going to venture into doing a Bronco. Little more work then I thought it would be. I was going to start with the Gay Toys Bronco, but if it will not sell because it will not be correct by using that as the master. Then I will not bother at this time. I just have too many big projects going right now for me to be able to put that kind of time and money into making that master. Thanks Matt

Or you could get some feedback from the owner of Bronco Driver magazine... I happen to know him personally. Seriously, speaking of Classicbroncos.com, there is actually a guy on there right now working on a master. I have been working off and on with him about the project but I believe he has probably given up due to complexity, time, money, etc. I will make time to follow up with him and find out the status of his EB. Maybe he and Matt could work together some how. If he is indeed given up, he might sell the master. John

Sorry for taking so long to post the ClassicBroncos.com thread. Here it is: classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149843Don't know if it matters but the current poll is 104 for, 0 against, and 4 for won't make money. John p.s. I am "knoxbroc" there

It sounds like he destroyed the master. Too bad. It looked really good. He should not have taken on the mold making on his own. Making good quality molds is not as easy as everyone thinks. It took me 15 years to finally make a mold that every item comes out darn near perfect. This is my latest and this is just what they look like out of the mold with a tiny bit of clean up (THAT I DO) and the customer gets their items just like this. How many resin casters in the industry do you get your parts this clean? It took years of doing it to get like this. Extended cab for the Revell 1950 Ford F-1 mastered by my friend Dave Bell The only way I would do a deal with an outside master maker is to be able to buy the master out right for cash. I have only two guys that I work with in making masters for me. It is a trust thing. I NEVER barrow or work out trade deals with anyone I do not now personally for years. Only those two guys I mentioned above, qualify. I have just learned this over my years of casting to never get involved in anything like that. It just has always backfired on me. If my two friends or me don not make the master or I bought it outright. I do not do it. No matter how nice the master might be. It is just all to protect myself and my business. I hope you all understand. Oh, I could tell you stories...... Thanks for all of your input on this. Matt

That's the way to do it, Sebastien. it is not that hard to do. It is one of those little things that puts a caster above the rest. Keep it up, it will pay off. Believe me, the customers notice it. As for stories, here is one. This was one of the first times this happened to me. I was a member of a 1:1 automotive board and there was a section on toys and collectibles about that car. There was a guy that had a very cool, plastic injected part for a popular 1/16th diecast of those cars. He got it from a guy that worked for a toy company that made them for his personal diecast. there were a bunch of people on this board that wanted these pieces. So this guy asked me to cast copies. He got the OK from the guy that made the master. So this guy was not even the master modeler, mind you. He told me that he would send these masters to me, and in "Trade" he would just want "A Few". well that was my first mistake. I should have settled on a number. So I get the items. These were big so I cost me about $25.00 in RTV and a couple hours of time to make the mold. I rate my shop time at $20.00 to $25.00 an hour. That is very low, too. So I get these done. In this time. They guy starts sending me e-mails. First he wants 3 copies. Then he wants "2 more for his buddy". Then another e-mail asking for another 5 and so on and so on. By the time he is done with me. He is wanting 20 copies. These were going to be going for about $10.00 a pop. Then all of these people that wanted this item on that board never ordered. It turned out that this guy fricken offered to get just about everyone on that board a set for free. So what was the point for me to do them. Well a good thing that I had not sent him anything yet, and he was getting on my butt. So I told him that he was taking advantage of me and I told him that, "I have not gotten one order for these. So I am not going to make them. So I am going to send you the master's back, and "TWO" copies. That is it!" So in the end. Who's name got smeared in the gutter and labeled a "Thief and a Cheat." ME! All because I would not let anyone take advantage of me. So, Sebastien. I do not know how long you have been in this casting business. But I am sure you know what I am talking about and if you do not. You just wait. When you got something that allot of people want. You will get these few that will try to get something for nothing from you. When you do not let them. YOU will be the bad guy. I have many MANY more stories like that. I have been doing this resin thing with the model car hobby, for 14 years. I have seen everything that comes up. As the latest two days ago. I had a guy tell me how much he could do for me if I would just send he 4 items he needs from me for FREE. No Kidding. He said that he could lend me some masters later. I have even had another well known caster pull this on me. He wanted a bunch of stuff from me for free, right away, but would not send me anything. Told me he would later. I did it once but I would not the second time. After a ton of treats through e-mails, and harassing phone calls at 2 in the morning from him. Also him calling my wife a name saying that she was a female dog. All because she picked up the phone from one of his 2 in the morning calls and told him where to go. He tells me that I"Threw him under the BUS". and he got ahold of one of the parts he wanted. Cloned it and started selling it. Along with a few other items he stole from me. Then tried to tell me that I could not sell those items anymore. The good thing is that this caster has built up a rep of being a cheat and not to many people buy from him. So I get the last laugh. Well so there is two you got for the price of one. LOL!! I have many more. So you all can understand why I do not get to close with doing deals with just anyone. I have to have known you "Personally" for years and that has not even been 100% but that will just get me on a few more stories. Matt

thanks matt for this... HEY jeFF and John... strat a nes section call... THE STORIES OF THE CASTER.... because I have a plenty in my side too. I do casting for about +- 8 years now, Owner of a hbyyshop for 7 years. modeller for hummm don't remember ;D +- 32 years. I learn a lot. and this is one of my storie.
When I open my store I listen my customer that are asking me to brought this kit OR an other... you know they will be a VERY GOOD seller. so after doing a survey through local club. and receive a lot of positif feed about a kit or an other I place the order. when I receive my 48 1957 bel air kits no one came to buy 1. now you know why if I ask you to pay in advance something it's for what. this hapend a couple of time before I state. you want it?? you pay it and I will order it.
same thing happen with the casting. a customer want a specialfront bumper for his skyline kit. and he ask me to do the master, mold and gave to him a free sample and he will get me the right to put on the market his front bumper... by chance I do some research because he don't do anything with his real bumper. except buying it a the local tuneshop and add a small lip at the bottom.
when I see this I tell hime the price for the master and the mold that he have to pay. but I will gave him for free one copy.
you know his answer. no of course.
happy modelling.
PS: do you find your tire?? if yo find it n an other scale I can help you to shrink OR enlarge it. just contact me.
yours
