Guys, when looking at Bogger44's Scout this morning I was reminded of a philosophical question I have had for a while, one I often struggle with and wanted to hear your take... have you ever built a part on your model that IS NOT CORRECT to the real truck because it LOOKS more real? For instance... on my 85 Bronco desert racer the roof antenna on the real truck was really tall so the owner bent it over to look like a shepherd's hook. But when I tried it on my model, it looked well, wrong. So I made it incorrect to the real truck, but it now looks correct.
Another example, Bogger44 was talking about his scratchbuilt front bumper not being symmetrical. But if you get out on any trail with some well used trucks, their front bumper's symmetry is long gone. So his bumper is actually more correct to real life.
So I guess my question is: I am the only one that struggles with this issue? I would like to hear comments. John

Same here John...I had issues with the Scrambler masters...I had actually measured 1:1 parts & when trying to duplicate to 1:24 scale, it just didn't "look" right. I think kit manufacturers do this also, mixing scales somewhat to suit their needs like tooling, packaging, cross utilization of parts, etc. As you say, sometimes "correct" isn't always, it's gotta "look" right!

John, my main building focus is replicating race cars (short track modifieds). I find myself often fighting the same battle. In the end I will usually make a compromise in the direction that will make the model look the most real, clean, and appealing to the eye.

I agree with Willie on this one. If you look at any of use that put bolts and studs on our model parts if you scale it down roughly a 1/2" bolt at 1/24 works out at about .5mm anything smaller than 1/2" is not worth putting on but the kit makers do put them on out of scale and so do we because its looks more real
