What i find interesting about the story... quote: "He said that the driver, who wasn't named, was forced to run from the scene when the crowd grew unruly and some began throwing rocks at him. It was not clear why he lost control of the truck."
#1. throwing rocks at the driver? Are the spectators animals? At every off road event I have ever been, some people are alway standing in locations that make it impossible to get out of the way of a vehicle. Blame the driver? Crazy!
#2. "not clear why he lost control..." Duhhh! He was racing! Losing control happens when you are running at the limit. Duhhh!
Sad! John

This is just like those European road rally events where the spectators stand at the very edge of the road to see the cars come screaming by up close. At any moment something unfortunate like this can happen and tragedy strikes. Then the ignorance happens and people want to blame the driver. It's a sad situation but don't blame the driver because you were standing in an area that you didn't belong. Blame the organizer for not creating any kind of structured safety measures, especially at dangerous areas of the course like where this took place.

Maybe, just maybe, (seriously doubt it though) this incident will make spectators understand that it isn't safe to stand at the edge of a course where off road vehicles are running close to 100 mph!! There will be accidents occur!! You know that this kind of stuff has to tick drivers off! Can you imagine trying to race through a course with people lined up on each side of the course wanting to get a good view of you jumping through the air or power sliding around a curve?? I don't think the organizers are to blame either. They can't barracade an entire course off. Even if they barracaded off just the dangerous spots, I guarantee there would be spectators sitting on the barracades or leaned up against them. This was an accident that could have been avoided if the spectators would back off and give the drivers the room they need. It may be harsh, but the only ones to blame are those who were standing in the way.
