Where can i find Evergreen styrene? I have been trying to find some for times when scratch building is needed. Right know i have been using the trees the parts come on, but Im getting tired of having to clean them off...lol. Ive looked at my local Hobby Lobby but they dont have any. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help. Gary

Gary, I've bought alot of supplies from www.greatmodels.com/ Just type in evergreen in the search box, lots to see. They have a large selection of scratchbuilding supplies, most in stock at all times. If you're going to be doing alot of scratchbuilding, stock up on different thicknesses of sheet, strips, angles, tubes, rods, etc. Stop using sprue, get yourself some hollow tube & use wire in it for cages...see John's post here: www.offroadmodels.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=howto&action=display&thread=1Hope this helps!

if you have a Hobbytown store near you they should have plenty of stock of it there. look also in model railroad shops if there are any around you too.
Evergreen products are made with styrene plastic, same as model kits. Plastruct is different, i think it's PVC? the only glue i've had luck with on Plastruct was superglue or Plastructs own product.
many people will give you suggestions on what glue to use for Evergreen, but i prefer and swear by Tenax 7R. sometimes i'll use Tamiya's liquid cement, but 99% of the time it's Tenax for me.
these guys are right, you gotta stop using sprue! it's nice having material to work with that's already the shape you want it to be instead of trying to sand and file it. pick up some round rod and tube and you will wonder what you were ever thinking before! it's nice working with good materials.

i did a quick search, no Hobbytown stores in your state! i did find some listings for stores that may have some Evergreen though.
Trains and Treasures 307-259-3669
Sweetwater Scenery 307-265-2202
Rr Rock Hobby Shop, Lander, Wyoming 307-332-2364
Jackalope Printing and Hobbies, Rawlins, Wyoming 307-324-7788
hopefully one fo those places can help you out!

Dave I had no idea Plastruct and Evergreen were different. I have always treated them the same, glue-wise. So, Tenax works on both? I wonder if they are indeed different chemicals. 95% of my styrene supply is Evergreen. I have used both Plastruct's Bondene and Tamiya Extra Thin "Cement". Both work great. The Bondene seems a little hotter (melts styrene easier) but evaporates from the bottle VERY VERY VERY quickly. The Tamiya seems to not melt styrene as well but the square bottle (that doesn't knock over... I have a 7 year old remember) and that awesome brush with a very tight point is worth it's weight in gold!

Plastruct makes styrene & a "different" line, not sure what the material is...kinda gray looking stuff. Here's the styrene: Speaking of cements, here's my favorite...very small applicator point, bonds fast & forever!

i havent had good luck with the Tenax on Plastruct, just superglue and the glue that they sell, don't remember the name but it could be the Bondene. since it's ABS too it's not nearly as flexible and "soft" as the Evergreen is. i have no problems bending Evergreen by hand to some pretty sharp angles, but the Plastruct will snap or break if you try the same. Evergreen is just a very workable product.
i've had the Tamiya liquid cement for a long time too, that little brush is very nice! with the Tenax you have to find a brush to apply it with. i use the Tenax so much that i use about 6 bottles of it a year! just got restocked at Christmas time.

Jeff is right too, the packaging for all the Plastruct i have does say styrene on it. the little bit of the grey stuff i have the packaging is long gone from.
maybe the styrene is a different formulation than the Evergreen is?
the Faller glue looks very interesting too!
note: i referred to the Plastruct as being both ABS and PVC plastic. i could be wrong there but i'm sure the grey stuff was one or the other. something interesting too. when i was bending some of the Plastruct rod into loops to make some turbochargers it would take on this sort of grainy texture. i thought it was kind of a good thing for what i was making but i wonder why it got like that?

Hi all
i get my styrene sheeting from a local plastic manufacturer. It's a lot cheaper than buying Evergreen or Plastruc and is the same product, just in larger sheets ( 2.5ft x 3ft approx).
cheers
