Hey all. Been incapacitated for a few. Got a dumb question: where does the black ground wire coming from the starter connect to? And a pic would surely help . Thanks in advance.

Not sure what wire you are talking about. Battery cable size wire or smaller size wire. Ground for the starter is usually through the starter case to the engine block. smaller wires have a different purpose. Are you working on a GM, Ford or Mopar?

So the battery cable-size ground from the starter and the ground from the battery both go to the block? You'd think I would know this stuff.

Usually there is only one battery cable to the starter. The red power one either from the solenoid on a ford or to the solenoid on GM and Chrysler. The metal case of the starter grounds the starter. Power for other accessories can be taken by a smaller wire off the battery terminal or from the solenoid terminal. Considerable smaller wire though. I want to tell you where on line you can look for common wiring diagrams and such but I do not know a specific site. You can always check on the how stuff works site! They may even have an animation that shows the current flow through the system. I don't have anything that I can take photos of right now either. If you go to a library, they normally have reapir manuals that you can get photos from.

As I think about it though, there are a few 24 volt systems out there. Ag Tractors used them in the 70's and some of the big diesel trucks still do too. These would have 2 batteries connected together then into the electrical system. Been too long since I worked on a 24v Electrical system...don't remember the specifics any more.
