Heya gang, this is my first Scout "build" and I wanted to share.. I have to work a wacky night shift tonight, so I stayed awake as long as I could last night to prepare.. did this while I forced myself to stay awake
I got the Scout back in January, and wanted to lift it and change the tires, add some details to the interior and all that. I had a hard time finding a donor vehicle for the tires, but eventually got an off-road/baja truck from Hot Wheels.
The Scout is a '77 from the Johnny Lightning series. Saw it on the shelf at my local Wal-Mart and was like Whhhhaaaaaat! I gotta get that! So I did!
The stance isn't the best, its got a very slight wobble since all the tires aren't level with one another... I've never worked in this small scale before, and I'm still trying to develop my fabrication techniques. But what the hell, I like it!
Basically just made some new axles and some drop down mounts for them. I was going to try to make some little shocks and leafs for the front and rear respectfully, and I was going to make a little drive shaft, but like I said, my fabrication skills are just in the infant stages, and my styrene collection is still very small.
With the interior I added some dark grey to throw off the basic plastic-mold black. For a bit of color I did the roll bar and shift & 4X4 knobs in blue. Tried my best to do the steering wheel in a wood grain with silver spokes. Its was tough cuz I couldn't get it out.
The rims I painted the inner spokes silver to stand them out. As for the engine I was able to paint the air cleaner and a hose black, but since its so small and lacks in detail it was tough to do much more.
All in all it was a fun little build, didn't cost much to do, and its still my first Scout! Eventually I may do something with the misc pieces left over from the off-road/baja donor, find some donor wheels, and paint the body, something like that.... Any way, hope you enjoyed!
